summary: The article presents a proof of rotary ball mill's old fragment shell shape's and manner's and assembly place's influence on shape of new element cross-section's deformations. This new element includes one of journals, which co-operates with slide bearing. Mentioned influence was confirmed by numerical analysis, carried out using finite element method (FEM) and executed in the context of real technical problem, which arose in one of cement producers in Poland, at the turn of 2007 and 2008 year. Results of made analysis show, that, connecting shell's elements of new and old section, we should be aware, that new element can be deformed during assembly, as a result of it's connection with deformed old shell's section, even this new one is properly worked at mechanical workshop. Deformations of old shell's fragment, determining loads of new element at connection place with old one, can be transmitted by significant axial distance, very often up to undesirable areas. In case of analysis, described in present article, the new journal of mill, which co-operate with slide bearing elements, is just an undesirable spot.
