topic: Numerical analysis of the dryer felt shaft dynamics of a paper-making machine.
author: Phd Eng. J.Zachwieja
summary: The work contains a numerical analysis of a paper machine dryer felt shaft dynamics. Due to the shaft relative small stiffness its axis undergoes flexure under its own weight and the dryer felt stress tension. During rotating the shaft performs a precession motion in relation to the statical equilibrium position which is the cause of additional dynamic load of significant value. The influence of the shaft unbalance on the effort level has been evaluated. It was found that unbalance of the value 0.3kgmm/kg is rendered into stress increase by 50%. The frequency of stress amplitude changes becomes synchronous with the rotational speed while the shaft precession forces changes of the stress amplitude with frequency twice higher than the rotational frequency. The calculated stress increase while its potential going through the resonance zone is not big enough to cause the shaft damage.
