catalogue: Rotary vessels
topic: Study of the causes and consequences of excessive wear of the retaining elements fixing live rings on the shell of rotary drum
author: Phd Eng. M.Świtalski
summary: The article contains an analysis of the causes of wear of the retaining elements of live rings on the shell (so called stop-blocks), indicating that one of the most important factors, unfortunately often overlooked in the discussion is the quality of contact between the support rollers and live ring’s race ways. It has been shown that the gaps which are often observed between the details are leading to generation of moments of forces of very large values that attempt to change the inclination of the ring. In the publication there are also provided the common reasons for the appearance of non-linearity in the contact between the ring and the rollers and pointed out the negative effects which are generating additional torque loads, including the consequences in the wear of the stop-blocks. In addition, in summary were classified the actions to be taken to prevent such disadvantageous situations and how to eliminate them.
